A huge iceberg is ending up in Antarctica
The world's largest and longest-lived iceberg, A23A, has begun to slowly break apart in the South Atlantic Ocean. It broke off from Antarctica's Filchner-Ron Ice Shelf nearly four decades ago, in 1986. At the time, it was about 3,672 square kilometers in area and weighed an estimated one trillion metric tons—larger than the US state of Rhode Island.
