For five consecutive days, the sun has not been seen in the northern district of Dinajpur. The cold has increased greatly with thick fog and icy winds. Dew is falling like rain with the wind.
On Saturday, the lowest temperature recorded in Dinajpur was 9.6 degrees Celsius. Tofazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Dinajpur Regional Meteorological Office, said that the humidity in the air was 96 percent and the wind speed was 3 kilometers per hour.
Due to the excess water vapor in the atmosphere, the heat of sunlight is not available. However, there is a possibility of some improvement in the next few days. The temperature may decrease slightly more, which is feared to increase the severity of the cold.
Low-income people are the most affected by this severe cold. Many people are trying to escape the cold by burning straw in rural areas. Vehicles are moving slowly with headlights on due to fog.
With the onset of winter, the number of cold-related patients including diarrhea, pneumonia and respiratory problems is increasing in the 13 Upazila Health Complexes of the district. In particular, the number of child patients is increasing significantly. Doctors are advising children to avoid stale food, keep food covered and not go out at night.
