Due to dense fog, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation authorities have temporarily suspended ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway to avoid accidents on the Padma.
As the amount of fog in the river increased since Tuesday evening, around 3 am, the marking lights of the ferries on the waterway became unclear due to dense fog. As a result, three ferries named Banalata, BS Jahangir and Baigar were stranded in the middle of the Padma along with vehicles and passengers. Later, they anchored. After that, the authorities suspended ferry services on the waterway at around 3:30 am.
In addition, ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat waterway have also been suspended due to dense fog on the Jamuna River. As the amount of fog increased, two ferries named Shah Ali and Kishani anchored in the middle of the river. Ferry services were suspended at around 2 am to avoid accidents.
Nasir Chowdhury, DGM of BIWTC Aricha office, confirmed this information through a text message at around 5:30 am on Wednesday. He said that ferry services have been suspended due to increasing fog and that ferry services will resume once the fog on the river clears.
