Due to climate change and increasing air pollution, various cities in the world are rising to the top of the pollution list. Among them, Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, is currently known as one of the most polluted cities.
According to information received from the international air quality technology company IQAir at around 9:30 am on Wednesday, Dhaka's Air Quality Index (AQI) score was 490, which has taken the air quality to the 'hazardous' level.
The Switzerland-based air quality monitoring company IQAir analyzes the air quality of cities around the world every day and publishes a pollution list. The AQI score helps determine human health risks by providing information about air quality.
Dhaka is in second place on today's list, while Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina is in first place (score 520). Karachi in Pakistan is in third place (score 217), Delhi in India is in fourth place (score 213), and Chongqing in China is in fifth place.
Experts say the presence of particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers per cubic meter in the air is important in determining air quality.
Score 0-50: Good
Score 51-100: Moderate
Score 101-150: Hazardous
Score 151-200: Unhealthy
Score 201-300: Very unhealthy
Score 301-500: Hazardous
Experts have expressed concern about this increasing pollution and called for awareness of its long-term effects on public health.
