Popular Pakistani YouTuber Sadur Rehman, known online as ‘Daki Bhai’, has been arrested by law enforcement agencies. He was detained at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport in the early hours of Sunday (August 17). The NCCIA said that Daki Bhai was promoting gambling and fraudulent mobile apps online. A case has been registered against him in this incident and he has been remanded for two days on the orders of the court.
When Sadur Rehman was produced before the magistrate court on Sunday afternoon, the court directed the NCCIA to submit an investigation report on the allegations and asked him to appear again on Tuesday (August 19). The FIR states that Sadur Rehman and some other YouTubers and social media influencers have been promoting gambling and betting applications for personal financial gain, as a result of which many people have lost their hard-earned money.
He has been charged under several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including electronic fraud (Sections 13, 14), spamming (Section 25), spoofing (Section 26), giving of prizes related to trade (Section 294B) and cheating and dishonest transfer of property (Section 420). The investigation found that a total of 27 video links were recovered from Daki Bhai's account where banned applications were promoted.
Earlier on Saturday (August 16), his identity was identified through the IBMS system. Later, he was detained at the airport and his mobile phone was seized. There, several conversations and videos related to banned applications and illegal money transactions were found. Daki Bhai's arrest has sparked widespread discussion in the online world of Pakistan.
