Leadership Is Not the Priority, Protecting Women’s Rights Is What Matters: Jamaat Leader

Jamaat-e-Islami’s Women Affairs Secretary, Nurunnesa Siddika, has said that according to the Islamic way of life, women cannot hold the highest state positions. However, she emphasized that holding top leadership roles is not the main issue; rather, what truly matters is whether women’s rights are being properly protected.
She made these remarks on Sunday (February 1) while responding to journalists’ questions after a meeting with the Election Commission (EC). Nurunnesa Siddika pointed out that despite the country having had female prime ministers for a long time, the genuine rights of women have not been adequately ensured.
Earlier on Sunday, the Jamaat women’s wing went to the Election Commission to lodge complaints alleging attacks on their members during election campaigning. During the meeting, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) listened to their concerns attentively.
While raising the complaints, Jamaat’s Political Affairs Chief, Habiba Akhter Chowdhury, said that female party workers were being attacked during election campaigns. She alleged that a deep-rooted conspiracy was underway to obstruct Jamaat’s women activists from carrying out their political activities.
