State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque has expressed optimism that the Bangladesh football team will play in the World Cup in the next 10, 20 years or at some point.
He expressed this hope in response to a question from journalists at a journalist's view-exchange meeting organized at the conference room of the Department of Information at the Secretariat on Sunday (July 26). Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan was also present at the event.
Responding to a question from journalists about when Bangladesh will be able to participate in the World Cup, the former national footballer and current State Minister for Sports said that it is a place of great expectation for the country's sports lovers. Just as the people of this country support Brazil or Argentina, the question also arises in their minds - when will Bangladesh play in this event? He commented that he himself is a partner in the same dream.
"I will not set a specific date or time. However, as a former player, I am aware of our limitations and needs. Currently, we have started working on practical solutions to those problems, the positive impact of which is already visible." He added that the foundation stone has been laid to take a football-mad country from zero to the world stage. He believes that the red-green team will make its name in the highest tournament of world football within 10 or 20 years through concerted efforts.
