After the recent ODI series loss against Zimbabwe, there has been a big change in the leadership structure of the Bangladesh national cricket team. All-rounder Mehdi Hasan Miraj is going to lose the captaincy of the ODI team due to discussions about the latest performance and leadership quality. The process of selecting a new ODI captain has now begun at the top level of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), according to a report by the international cricket website Cricbuzz.
Currently, three different captains are seen as captains in the three formats of the national team - Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Liton Das and Mehdi Hasan Miraj. However, according to the recent thinking of the BCB, the responsibility of white-ball or limited-overs cricket and red-ball Test cricket is being planned to be kept separate. Although former ODI captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto's name is in the discussion in this equation, Liton Das is the frontrunner in the ODI captaincy race.
According to board sources, an important BCB board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday (July 29). The final announcement of the ODI captaincy for the next day may come in that board meeting. In addition, there is a strong possibility of bringing young batter Towhid Hridoy, who served as Liton Das' deputy or vice-captain in the T20 format, to the same position in ODIs. It is worth noting that Bangladesh won the T20 series in Zimbabwe under Hridoy's captaincy in Liton's absence.
It is reported that the BCB is going to decide on this leadership competition as part of the review of the national team's recent performance and the restructuring of the team in view of the upcoming tournaments.
