If the BNP votes 'no' in the referendum, the entire referendum process will become meaningless, BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has said. He said this will create a new crisis over the referendum verdict. Therefore, this issue should be considered from a practical perspective.

He made these remarks after exchanging views with party leaders and activists at the Shilpakala Academy Muktomanch in Chuadanga city on Thursday (October 30) morning.

Dudu said, "The report submitted by the Consensus Commission after long discussions with various political parties did not consider BNP's note of dissent. There are disputes over some other issues. Due to these reasons, disunity has emerged instead of unity. There is no precedent in the world where such a decision is imposed without discussion in parliament."

He further said, “Those who committed genocide and looted money and fled the country do not want the election to be fair. There are even many countries that are not able to accept this election easily. Many are raising the question – how is the election possible without the Awami League? In other words, a group is obstructing such efforts to have a fair, acceptable and neutral election.”

Shamsuzzaman Dudu further claimed, “There is no tension between the BNP and the government over the election, rather the problem lies elsewhere.”

Former joint convener of the district BNP Waheduzzaman Bula, BNP leaders Shahidul Islam Ratan, Asirul Islam Selim and others were present at the time.
