Extortion and terrorism cannot be stopped without reforms: Nasiruddin Patwari

It will be difficult to stop extortion, tender rigging and terrorist activities if the state does not implement the necessary reforms, said Nasiruddin Patwari, chief coordinator of the National Citizens Party (NCP).

He said these things at a road meeting organized as part of the 'Desh Garte July Padayatra' program at the historic Tentultala in Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh on Sunday (July 19) evening.

Nasiruddin Patwari said that unless necessary changes are made in the state structure, the fair rights of the working people cannot be ensured. At the same time, it will not be possible to eliminate problems such as intimidation, extortion and encroachment on businessmen and the common people.

He said that if the reform programs are not implemented, it will be difficult to improve the living standards of different classes of working people, including stone workers. In addition, the culture of tender rigging and harassment of businessmen will also continue.

The NCP leader alleged that those who had earlier promised state reforms are now backing away from that position. He claimed that visible changes are needed to implement the aspirations of the July Movement.

Criticizing the BNP, Nasiruddin Patwari said that the desired changes have not come in the last two years as per the expectations of the common people. He accused the parties of failing in various sectors including law and order, health, economy and social security and called for a change in their position.

Criticizing family-centric politics, he said that the tendency of members of the same family repeatedly becoming public representatives is not positive for democracy. Leadership should be elected through people's votes.

The NCP leader urged party leaders and activists to be prepared for the local government elections. He said that the people will not accept any attempt to exert administrative influence in the elections.
