Sukhranjan Bali, a prominent witness in the case of former Naib-e-Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee, has come forward again after a long time. He appeared before the International Crimes Tribunal and alleged that he was a victim of kidnapping, disappearance and physical torture. This information was revealed by the International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday (August 21).
After filing the complaint, Sukhranjan Bali told reporters, "Sayedee was a good person. I also went to his funeral. I was kidnapped, detained and tortured due to political vendetta." He said that he has the right to seek legal redress in this incident.
He has submitted a written charge sheet with full details to the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal. In his complaint, he mentioned that on November 5, 2012, when he came to testify in court, plainclothes police took him away in a microbus. Then he was kept abducted for two months and 17 days. Later, he was sent across the border to India, where he had to serve five years in prison.
Sukharanjan Bali claimed that the prosecution had pressured him to testify against Sayedee.
His lawyer Parvez Hossain said that a total of 32 people, including Sheikh Hasina, former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, former tribunal judge Nizamul Haque Nasim, former law minister Shafiq Ahmed, former prosecutor Rana Dasgupta, former prosecutor Haider Ali, have been named as responsible for the incident.
It is worth noting that Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee was sentenced to death in a war crimes case at the International Crimes Tribunal. However, one of the most talked-about incidents in that case was the disappearance of witness Sukharanjan Bali, which sparked intense discussion in the international community.
