Prime Minister announces free education for girls up to Honours, scholarships for meritorious students

He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the 'Primary Education Award-2026' ceremony organized at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Agargaon in the capital on Wednesday (July 15). The program was organized by the Directorate of Primary Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
The Prime Minister said that the contribution of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia in the progress of women's education in the country is notable. Maintaining that continuity, the current government has planned to introduce free education for girls up to Honours level. In addition, government scholarships will be provided to students who demonstrate achievements in higher education.
New initiatives in primary education
The Prime Minister also highlighted the government's various plans to improve the quality of education. She said that new school uniforms will be provided to all students from classes one to five of government primary schools in phases. At the same time, work is underway to implement a high-quality midday meal program to ensure the nutrition of students.
Importance of the role of teachers in building human values
Addressing primary school teachers, the Prime Minister said that children should not only be enriched with textual knowledge, but also with human values. She urged that an environment should be created in which children grow up with compassion for people, animals and nature. According to her, humane citizens will play a role in building a prosperous and responsible Bangladesh in the future.
Call for children to play sports and environmental awareness
To the children present at the event, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of regular sports along with education. She urged every student to plant at least one tree every year and advised them to develop the habit of conserving the environment from an early age.
Besides, inaugurating the 'Green School' program, he urged the students to keep their respective schools clean, cooperate with each other and practice environmentally friendly behavior.
Honoring those who have achieved in the field of education
The ceremony presented medals and honors to the best students, best teachers and representatives of educational institutions selected from different districts of the country. In addition, debates and cultural performances were organized with the participation of the students, which added a different dimension to the event.
