The claim that Sadiq Qayem, former VP of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), has joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has been spreading on social media and various media outlets, but the party has said that it is baseless.

Jamaat-e-Islami's central leaders said that such rumors were created after a photo of Sadiq Qayem with the party's Ameer was recently published. However, they have clarified that the photo is not proof of joining any political party.

The party's Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Media Department, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, said that the news of Sadiq Qayem joining Jamaat is not correct. He explained that the Jamaat's Ameer was present at a program of the student union and the photo was taken there. Later, a wrong explanation was given around it.

Recently, there was also talk on social media that Sadiq Qayem may contest the mayoral post in a city corporation election in the future. However, no official information or announcement has been made by Jamaat in this regard.

Earlier, Sadiq Kayem announced his retirement from student politics in a post on his verified Facebook account on July 12. He said that his chapter in Islami Chhatra Shibir has come to an end as part of the organization's regular organizational process.

In his post, he referred to the time spent in Chhatra Shibir as an important chapter in his life and expressed gratitude for the long journey with the organization.

Sources said that according to the organizational policy of Chhatra Shibir, members are officially dismissed when they reach a certain age or end their studentship. That rule has also been followed in the case of Sadiq Kayem. As a result, the party has stated that it is not correct to publicize the incident of leaving Chhatra Shibir as joining Jamaat-e-Islami.
