Public Ownership of Energy: Policy Dialogue in Savar on Bangladesh's Just Energy Transition

Savar Representative: A local-level policy dialogue was held in Savar on the role of renewable energy in achieving socio-economic prosperity and Bangladesh's just energy transition.

A local policy dialogue titled 'The Role of Renewable Energy in Achieving Socio-Economic Prosperity' was organized at the Bijoy-71 meeting room in Savar on Thursday (August 13). The dialogue, held under the theme 'Public Ownership of Energy: Bangladesh's Just Energy Transition', discussed the potential of renewable energy, public involvement in energy management, and various aspects of sustainable and just energy transition.

Dr. Dewan Mohammad Salauddin Babu, Member of Parliament for Dhaka-19 constituency, was present as the chief guest at the event. Savar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Saiful Islam presided over the meeting.

Call to increase the use of renewable energy

Speakers in the discussion said that in addition to meeting the country's growing energy needs, it is necessary to increase the use of renewable energy to maintain environmental balance and build a safe energy system for future generations.

They emphasized the need to take new initiatives in energy production and use at the local level, especially by utilizing the potential of various renewable energies, including solar power.

Importance of public involvement in energy management

The dialogue highlighted the need to ensure the participation and ownership of the common people in the energy sector. In addition, emphasis was placed on increasing transparency and accountability in energy management and gradually transforming to an environmentally friendly energy system.

The speakers felt that it is important to take into account the issue of ensuring that people from all walks of life benefit from the energy transition while formulating policies.
