Former General Secretary of the People's Rights Council and current BNP leader Muhammad Rashed Khan has expressed deep fear for the safety of his life, focusing on the speech of Jamaat leader and MP Amir Hamza at a waz mahfil.
In an emotional status posted on his verified page on social media Facebook on Sunday (May 24), he claimed that after that speech, a wrong message is being created against him among the general public, which can pose a great risk to his life.
Rashed Khan alleged that MP Amir Hamza is trying to make him 'killable' in public by abusing religious sentiments at the waz mahfil. As a result, he claimed that there is a risk of a 'mob' or group attack on him at any time by extremist supporters. He made it clear that Amir Hamza will have to take full responsibility for any harm he suffers in the future.
In the Facebook post, he further said that Amir Hamza had previously made political statements at various Waz Mahfils and had made various comments in the past, which he alleged were now being used against him. He claimed that the MP was angry with him because of these statements being discussed on television talk shows and social media.
Rashed Khan said that if he was criticized on a political platform, he would have dealt with it politically. But if he made provocative statements using a religious platform, it affects the emotions of the common people and poses a major security threat to him.
He further mentioned that he had been active in politics since the time of the quota reform movement and later played an important role in the leadership of the People's Rights Council. In late 2025, he joined the BNP and later contested the National Assembly elections from the Jhenaidah-4 constituency, although he was defeated.
The incident has sparked fresh discussions and debates in the political arena.
