Claiming that BNP had no secret deal with India, BNP has termed the statement of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Amir Dr. Abdullah Muhammad Taher as 'ruse or ignorance'. BNP Chairman's advisor and Election Steering Committee spokesperson Dr. Mahdi Amin made the remarks in response to questions from journalists at a press conference at 11:30 am on Saturday (January 24).
Earlier, while addressing an election rally in Chufua area of Kalikapur Union in Chauddagram Upazila of Comilla, Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Amir Dr. Abdullah Muhammad Taher claimed that BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman returned home after making an agreement with India on three conditions.
Dr. In his speech, Taher quoted a report published in India's Anandabazar Patrika and said that the conditions of the agreement include the rehabilitation of people associated with fascism, obtaining India's permission to buy weapons for Bangladesh's self-defense, and suppressing Islamists.
When attention was drawn to this issue, BNP leader Dr. Mahdi Amin said, "The influential leader of a political party has not been able to present any evidence for the claim of an agreement with India and will not be able to do so. The information being published in the media has no reality or truth."
He also said that such statements have been made intentionally to create political debate. In the words of Dr. Mahdi Amin, "If this statement is made based on wrong information, then it is ignorance. And if it is made knowingly, then it is a political ploy. Whatever the case, BNP's claim of a secret agreement with India is complete propaganda.'
Expressing the political position of BNP, he said, 'The main goal of BNP's politics is to ensure the interests, sovereignty and power of Bangladesh. The philosophy of BNP's politics under Tarique Rahman's leadership is Bangladesh first.'
He further mentioned, 'Under Tarique Rahman's leadership, BNP has held continuous movements and rallies demanding a fair share of the water of Teesta and Padma rivers. This is the real picture of BNP's politics.'
