A fresh wave of extreme tension has erupted in the Indian capital Delhi over a protest called by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The Sangsad Marg area turned into a battlefield when the police fired tear gas to control the situation. Several law enforcement officials were injured during the clash and restrictions on internet and metro services have been imposed in several areas of Delhi as a security measure.

According to eyewitnesses and international media reports, the main gathering place in the Jantar Mantar area was peaceful, but a police chase and counter-chase began with a section of protesters in the area adjacent to the Park Hotel on Sangsad Marg. When the situation turned violent at one stage, the police used tear gas to disperse the protesters. A total of five police personnel, including two Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) and an inspector, were injured in the clash.

To prevent violence and calm the anger, volunteers were later recruited from among the organizers of the movement. They, in coordination with the police, called on the protesters to remain calm and carry out the program in a non-violent manner by broadcasting on microphones.

In the interests of the emerging situation and security, mobile internet services were temporarily suspended within a radius of one and a half kilometers around Jantar Mantar. In addition, 16 important metro stations in Delhi are temporarily closed, causing severe inconvenience to the movement of ordinary passengers. Earlier, the political heat increased when Rahul Gandhi and other top opposition leaders were detained in connection with the sit-in program in front of the Prime Minister's residence. The future of this tension on the streets depends on the next steps of the government and the stance of the protesters.
