BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed demanded in a strong voice at a program at the Shilpakala Academy on Saturday, “All doors must be closed to the return of the fascist Awami League.” He said that all political forces must remain united for the future of the country and the security of the next generation.

Salahuddin Ahmed said, “We must fulfill the blood pledge of our children.” He also said, I had to spend almost nine and a half years in exile to write two or four columns; I had to live in a mirrored room, I had to be tortured in prison—yet I did not back down from the path of struggle.

Recounting the memories of past political persecution in detail, he said, “Today we have heard the glorious history of the student uprising and remembered the memories of the bloody days. The future Bangladesh must be built on the basis of these past values and sacrifices. In his words, “It is our responsibility to build a truly democratic society, state and government system for our children.”

Salahuddin said that everyone must stand together to protect the country’s democracy, independence and sovereignty. Despite differences in ideology, it is important to have unity on the issue of the country—the nation will not forgive those who do not stand on the path of justice in history. He warned that if any fascist force returns to take advantage of the country’s internal disunity, it will bring dangerous consequences for the country.

The leaders and activists present at the event recognized Salahuddin’s statement and gave a message of unity and caution. The event called for—all democratic forces to unite and maintain the continuity of the historical struggle and to remain steadfast in protecting a free and sovereign state for future generations.

The essence of Salahuddin’s speech—the experience of personal oppression and struggle has made him stronger in the struggle to protect and restore democracy by any means. He repeated, "We and our successors will not accept any compromise on the question of the country."
