A special pink bus service has been launched in three cities of the country to ensure safe and comfortable travel for women. Initially, this service has been started with a total of 14 buses in Dhaka, Chittagong and Bogra.
Road Transport Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam inaugurated the pink bus service at the BRTC Dhaka Truck Depot premises in Tejgaon in the capital on Tuesday (August 18) at around 12 noon.
Women drivers and conductors will operate the buses
One of the features of this special bus service is that women drivers and conductors will be in charge of operating the buses. Through this, an initiative has been taken to create a more comfortable environment for women in public transport.
The buses are scheduled to start operating from Tuesday afternoon on the day of the inauguration, subject to the availability of passengers. However, regular passenger transport will start on the designated routes from Wednesday (August 19).
10 buses in Dhaka, 2 each in Chittagong and Bogra
In the initial phase, 10 pink buses are being launched on important routes in the capital. In addition, two buses each will operate in Chittagong and Bogra.
That is, a total of 14 buses in these three cities - Dhaka, Chittagong and Bogra - will be under the special pink bus service.
Through this initiative, the aim is to provide safe and comfortable public transport facilities to different categories of female passengers, including working women and students.
The number of buses will increase according to demand
The authorities said that the scope of the pink bus service may be expanded in the future, considering the demand and needs of passengers. There are plans to add more buses under this service if necessary.
Those concerned hope that the introduction of this separate public transport system for women will create new opportunities for safe travel.
