BNP leader Rumin Farhana has proposed making it mandatory for MPs' children to be educated in local educational institutions and to seek treatment in their local hospitals.

Speaking at a seminar titled 'Government's Priorities and Education Sector: Budget and Reality' held in the capital on Thursday (May 7), he said that the dire state of education and healthcare in many parts of the country is still evident when looking at the reality of villages.

Rumin Farhana said, "Many people want to become MPs only for money. But if they are forced to educate their children in local schools and seek treatment in their own local hospitals, they will be forced to give importance to the development of the area."

He also said that he himself has promised to seek treatment in the area. According to him, if such a rule is introduced, only the wealthy or the defaulters will be able to influence politics.

Expressing his disappointment with the education system, he said that many students cannot read properly or write a sentence in English even after completing primary education. He also commented that even though the most talented people abroad come to teach, they are often appointed to important positions in the country due to party considerations.

Calling for improvement in the salary structure of primary teachers, Rumin Farhana said that many teachers are forced to take up coaching due to lack of sufficient income. At the same time, she also raised questions about the social status of teachers and government employees.

Citing the poor infrastructure, she said that in many areas, children still struggle to go to school, and in some places there is not even a proper road to school. It is not realistic to discuss technology-based education without solving these basic problems.
