The Public Administration Reform Commission has made new recommendations for reforming the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exam. It has proposed a specific roadmap from the BCS exam to final posting. It also recommends redistribution of exam marks and the formation of three separate public service commissions.
According to the report published on the website of the Cabinet Division on Saturday (February 8), the Public Administration Reform Commission has suggested the formation of three public service commissions. These are—Public Service Commission (General), Public Service Commission (Education) and Public Service Commission (Health).
It has been recommended to set a specific timeline to make the recruitment process fast and transparent. According to the new roadmap, the BCS exam notification will be published in the second week of January, the preliminary exam will be held in the first week of April, the written exam in the second half of June and the final result will be published in the third week of April next year.
According to the new recommendations, 6 required subjects have been determined for the exam, but mathematics has not been included in it. Six optional subjects can be included in the written test, but a maximum of two subjects can be taken from any one group. A minimum of 60% marks is recommended for passing.
According to the Reform Commission, these changes are necessary to increase transparency and efficiency in the BCS examination. However, the opinions of the concerned quarters may be taken before taking a final decision.
