A passenger bus of 'Alif Paribahan' caught fire in Mirpur in the capital. The incident took place near Metrorail pillar number 266 in Sheorapara on Friday morning. Kafrul Police Station OC Abdullah Al Mamun said that around 7:15 am, two or three people disembarked all the passengers from the bus and set the bus on fire.
The OC also said that the bus that caught fire was heading from Mirpur towards Agargaon. According to the initial assumption of the police and fire service, the ongoing dispute over the appointment of a 'checker' may be behind the fire on the bus. Quoting the driver, assistant and owner of the bus, he said, "There was a dispute over the appointment of a checker for the bus. It is initially believed that the bus was set on fire over this appointment dispute."
The police are already trying to identify and arrest the arsonists by collecting closed-circuit camera footage and statements from witnesses.
Fire Service Duty Officer Rashed Bin Khalid said the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes of being reported at the scene. "Some youths came and set the bus on fire and quickly left," he said.
In the end, there were no casualties in the fire. However, the bus was extensively damaged. The fire service and police are assessing the extent of the damage.
