Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has held a protest march in the capital against the detention of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian aid flotilla sailing to Gaza, and the arrest of international human rights activists on board.
The march started at 2:15 pm on Friday (October 3) from the north gate of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram. Earlier, a protest rally was held at the north foot of the mosque.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Dhaka Metropolitan North Ameer Muhammad Selim Uddin and other top leaders from the central and city were present in the march. In addition, about thousands of Muslims participated in the march.
It is known that the Global Sumud Flotilla, a relief flotilla bound for Gaza, set off from a port in Spain on August 31. But when they reached the Gaza coast, the Israeli navy seized all but one of the boats. The boats, crew and human rights activists were then taken to an Israeli port.
Although the incident has sparked worldwide condemnation and protests, the cabinet led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not paying any attention to it. In continuation of this, Jamaat-e-Islami has held a protest march in Baitul Mukarram today expressing strong condemnation and protest.
