Real Madrid and Spain legend Sergio Ramos has completed a new chapter in music despite his busy football schedule. Last Sunday, he released his first song, ‘Cibeles’, which is named after the sculpture in the city of Madrid where Real celebrates its titles.
The music video for the song shows Ramos’ memorable moments in the Real jersey and the image of the sculpture. The lyrics of the song also reflect Ramos’ regret and memories of leaving Real. After being published on YouTube, the video has been watched by nearly 2.46 million viewers as of 9 am on Wednesday.
The 39-year-old Ramos is currently the captain of Mexican club Monterrey. He led the team to a 4-2 win over Puebla in a league match last week. Ramos found time to record the song despite his busy football schedule. After releasing the song, he feels quite confident in this regard. According to Ramos, he sees himself winning a Grammy Award before winning the Champions League as a coach.
On Monday, Ramos said on Spanish TV show ‘El Hormiguero’ that the song was written about the pain of leaving Real Madrid in 2021. “I always tell people to dream. I also imagine winning the Champions League as a coach. But before that, I see myself winning a Grammy.”
He added about the song, “It’s actually a love song. Is there any relationship without pain and suffering? I wrote 60 percent of it when I was in Paris, because that’s how I felt at the time. Leaving Madrid hurt me. It’s not easy to leave the best club in the world.”
Ramos has set up small studios in Seville and Madrid. He said his passion for music is old—“It’s part of life. Events, birthdays, or Christmas—at the end of the day, everyone sits down with their guitars and sings. Football hasn’t given me that much time. Now I want to do music in sync with football, and create good songs with the best artists.”
His football career is extremely talented—he has won a total of 22 titles, including five La Liga titles and four Champions League titles, with Real Madrid. After 16 years at the club, he joined PSG in 2021, then moved to his childhood club Sevilla and is currently playing for Monterrey, Mexico.
