Banned Chhatra League leader's name on Savar family card recruitment list

Questions have been raised about the recruitment list for supervisors and data collectors to implement the government's family card program in Savar Union after it was published. There has been anger among locals, especially since the name of Yusuf Kabir Uts alias Uts Molla was on the final list for the post of supervisor of Ward No. 3 of Sadar Union.

According to local sources, Yusuf Kabir Uts was the deputy general secretary of Dhaka District North of the banned Chhatra League. His father Humayun Kabir is also known locally to have been involved in Awami League politics. Locals also claim that he was the president of the Savar Titas Gas Distribution Contractors Association during the Awami League government.

Questions about political identity

Locals allege that during the 2024 student-public movement, Yusuf Kabir Uts was active in the field with Chhatra League leaders and activists and took a stand against the agitators.

Local residents have raised questions about the name of a person with such a political identity being included in the final list for field-level responsibility for an important social security program like the Family Card.

Their question is how did the name of a former leader of the banned Chhatra League make it to the final list when many ordinary unemployed youths applied but were not included in the recruitment list?

Demand for investigation into the recruitment process

A section of locals has demanded an investigation into whether there was any political influence or bias in the recruitment process. At the same time, they have called for ensuring competence, transparency and impartiality in the distribution of field-level responsibilities in public welfare initiatives like the Family Card program.

The Family Card program is directly related to the social security of ordinary and low-income people. Therefore, locals believe that it is important to impartially verify the complaints raised about the recruitment process and take necessary measures for its implementation.
