Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Mohammad Nasiruddin Patwari has strongly criticized Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's role in the ongoing flood situation in several districts of the country. At a road meeting organized in Niamatpur, Naogaon on Sunday evening, he alleged that the head of the government is not giving the necessary importance even though the affected people are in crisis. Tarique Rahman took charge as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh in February 2026.

At the road meeting, Nasiruddin Patwari said that many people in the south and southeast of the country are living in helpless conditions due to the floods. He described taking pictures with the Prime Minister's wife at such a time as an expression of indifference to the situation. However, he did not provide a detailed explanation as to when and in what context the relevant picture was taken.

The NCP leader demanded immediate support for the flood-affected people, adequate relief and intensified rehabilitation activities. His statement was part of a political criticism; there was no immediate response from the Prime Minister's Office or the government to the allegations.

In his speech, Nasiruddin Patwari, citing the July 2024 movement, demanded the speedy completion of the trial of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the relevant leaders of the Awami League. He also warned of developing a political program against the current government if there is no visible progress in the reforms and trial process.

He alleged that although various political parties made various promises to the people before the elections, many of them are not keeping in touch with the common people after coming to power. He also announced that the NCP will contest the upcoming local government elections with its own candidate.

Regarding the selection of party candidates, Patwari said that if specific allegations are proven against any candidate, his nomination or candidacy will be cancelled. He spoke about establishing justice-based politics without compromising with injustice and irregularities.

The NCP's chief coordinator also expressed disappointment over the expectations of the July movement. According to him, the movement created expectations of an independent judiciary, accountable police administration and a developed education system. But he complained that the desired independence of state institutions has not yet been ensured.

NCP's central joint general secretary and local youth power leader Nishat Ahmed presided over the road meeting organized on a temporary stage in front of the main gate of Niamatpur Upazila Parishad. Several leaders of the party from the central and local levels were present at the meeting.

At the beginning of the program, prayers and a minute's silence were observed in memory of those who lost their lives in the flood. At the same time, prayers were offered for the recovery and speedy rehabilitation of the injured and affected people.
