Members of the local Drug Eradication Committee have arrested a youth named Sadequl Islam Suman (25) with 218 pieces of Yaba in Panchagarh Sadar Upazila and handed him over to the police. At that time, a motorcycle, smartphone, ATM cards of various banks, driving license and drug consumption equipment were seized from him, the police said.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in Molani Shikarpur area of ​​​​Dhakmara Union of the upazila. Members of the West Shikarpur Drug Eradication Committee arrested him and later handed him over to the police.

According to police sources, the estimated value of the 218 pieces of Yaba seized is 87,200 taka. In addition, a 125 cc Discover motorcycle worth about 80,000 taka and a smartphone worth about 10,000 taka have been seized.

The police have filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Panchagarh Sadar Police Station as the plaintiff in this incident.

The arrested Sadequl Islam Suman is the son of Zainul Islam of Kamalapur area of ​​​​Dhakmara Union. According to local sources, he has an online service shop in Kamalapur Bazar. He also works as a dealer for the school feeding program.

Locals claim that on Wednesday afternoon, members of the West Shikarpur Drug Eradication Committee went there after receiving information that a person was waiting to sell a consignment of drugs in front of Darua Para Government Primary School. Later, the committee members claimed that 218 pieces of Yaba were found from him after searching Suman.

He was then taken to Molani Shikarpur Bazar and the locals informed the police. The police reached the spot and took him into custody. At the same time, they seized a motorcycle and other goods on charges of using it to transport drugs.

Members of the West Shikarpur Drug Eradication Committee Papel Ahmed, Matiar Rahman and Abed Ali said, "We have allegations that Suman has been involved in the drug trade for a long time. We went to the spot after receiving information that he had brought a large consignment of drugs on Wednesday afternoon. Later, he was searched and found to have Yaba.

They also said, "Drugs are destroying our children, adolescents and young people. We want exemplary punishment for those involved in drug trafficking. We are drawing the attention of the authorities concerned to ensure that those involved in such crimes are not easily released on bail and cannot get involved in the same thing again."

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station, Makhlesur Rahman, said, "The accused is being interrogated. It is also being investigated whether anyone else is involved with him. He will be produced in court on Thursday morning."
