Patient's severed leg missing from operation theatre at Kushtia Hospital

It has been alleged that the severed right leg of a man named Hashem Ali, who died while undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital, could not be found in the operation theatre. Relatives of the deceased have expressed anger over the incident.
On Wednesday afternoon, family members complained that the severed leg could not be found despite extensive searches at the operation theatre of Kushtia General Hospital. Later, they left the hospital with the body without the right leg.
Earlier, at around 4:30 pm, an easy bike and a battery-powered van collided head-on in the Shahpur Notun Mosque intersection area of Abdalpur under the Islamic University Police Station in Kushtia. Van passenger Hashem Ali was seriously injured in the incident.
Locals rescued him and took him to Kushtia General Hospital. He was taken to the operation theater on the advice of the doctor, but he died while undergoing treatment.
The relatives of the deceased alleged that his severed right leg was not found in the operation theater after his death. They demanded a proper investigation into the incident and accountability of the hospital authorities.
Hashem Ali is a resident of Abdalpur village under Ebi police station in Kushtia. He was a farmer.
Abdalpur Union Parishad Chairman Ali Haider Swapan said that such an incident occurred due to the negligence of the hospital officials. He demanded a prompt investigation and action against those responsible.
Iqbal Hasan, Resident Medical Officer of Kushtia General Hospital, said that he heard that the hospital staff had handed over the severed leg to the relatives during admission. The matter will be investigated and action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
Kabir Hossain Matubbar, Officer-in-Charge of Kushtia Model Police Station, said that an investigation will be conducted if a written complaint is received. If anyone is found negligent, legal action will be taken.
