Controversy over Baitul Mal: Rashed questions Jamaat MP Masud

BNP leader Rashed Khan has sparked a storm of criticism on social media by raising questions about the Baitul Mal program. In a Facebook post on Monday (May 4) morning, he alleged that collecting donations using religious sentiments could amount to fraud.
In his post, he asked, “First, monthly donation to Baitul Mal, or treatment for wife?” In this context, he said, a political party can talk about establishing Islamic ideals, but there is an opportunity to think about whether it is Sharia-compliant to collect money by misleading people in the name of Islam.
Behind this comment, the context of a video of Shafiqul Islam Masud that went viral recently has been drawn. Rashed claims that in that video, Masud can be heard saying that instead of regularly donating to Baitul Mal, a question has been raised about spending more money on personal expenses.
Rashed Khan also mentioned that if a party collects donations using the interpretation of the Quran and Hadith, it can be akin to hypocrisy with Islam. In his words, such actions of those who talk about establishing the ideals of Islam can question their own position.
In the last part of the Facebook post, he called on everyone to be vocal to stop any kind of hypocrisy in the name of Islam.
