The Metrorail is re-opening in Dhaka from Sunday (August 25) after being closed for more than a month due to damage during the students' agitation.

The office order signed by Deputy Director of Public Relations Department of MRT Line-6 Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman said that the Metrorail will run as per the previous schedule. However, Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations will remain closed due to 'unavoidable reasons'.

The metro rail service was stopped on July 18 after the incident of arson and vandalism during the students' agitation. After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5, the interim government ordered the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) to start operations by August 17, excluding the affected stations.

However, it was not possible due to the strike of metro rail workers which started from August 6. Then on August 20, the workers returned to their work and the Metrorail started.

On the same day, Senior Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department Ehsanul Haque visited Jatiya Press Club Station of Metrorail and directed the officials to take necessary measures to start the Metro service from August 25.
