Singer Mainul Ahsan Nobel once made a place in the hearts of music lovers in both Bengal. But now he is at the center of a heated debate. Leaving the singing stage, his address is now in prison. He has been arrested in a rape case and has been imprisoned for the past few weeks. However, Nobel started a new chapter in his life in this prison - he married the woman who was the plaintiff in the rape case.
Nobel has been in prison since May 20 in a case filed by a student of Eden College. The complaint states that he kept the woman locked up in a house for about seven months and raped and physically tortured her. He is currently in prison after being arrested in this case.
The new twist in the incident came with a special directive from the court. Magistrate Nazmin Akhter of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka ordered Nobel to marry the woman who was the plaintiff in the rape case in an order on June 19. Then, on Thursday, June 20, their wedding ceremony was held in the prison. As per the court's order, the marriage was completed in the presence of the prison authorities.
Nobel's lawyer Jasim Uddin and the case's investigation officer SI Ila Mani told the media that the wedding was arranged with the consent of both parties. Four close people from both families were present at the wedding: Nazma Hossain, Sabiha Tarin, Khalilur Rahman and Sadek Ullah Bhuiyan.
It is learned that the dowry for this wedding was set at 1 million taka. However, this money was not paid immediately, but rather it was mentioned in the marriage registration paper.
Discussions have started on the future of the case as a result of this marriage. According to legal experts, in serious crimes like rape cases, the case is not closed by marriage alone. The judicial process of the case will continue naturally, but the court may take a different decision considering the relationship between the plaintiff and the accused.
Nobel's wedding has received mixed reactions on social media. Some are advocating for giving him another chance, while many are calling for stricter justice against him.
