'Sukanya', a film based on Mamata Banerjee's 'Kanyashree', was released on Friday. The film is directed by Ujjwal Mitra and produced by Sameer Mondal. The film will tell the story of Mamata's rise from opposition leader to Chief Minister.

Kanika Banerjee plays the role of Mamata Banerjee in this film. Stars like Kharaj Mukherjee and Devashankar Nag are also acting. Former Trinamool MP in the Rajya Sabha Shantanu Sen will be seen in the film. Even Minister of State Swapan Debnath will be seen in a role.

Producer Sameer told the Indian media, 'For commercial reasons, it was not possible to take the risk of releasing the film at that time. Because the situation was different.'

Meanwhile, the film's director Ujjwal said, 'The film highlights the issues of women's rights and women's empowerment. That is, the emphasis is on the Kanyashree project.'

The shooting of this Kolkata film 'Sukanya' was completed during Durga Puja 2023. It was supposed to be released on August 30 after editing, dubbing and other work was completed.

But before that, on August 9, a tragic incident like the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital took place. This created unrest across West Bengal. Ordinary people took to the streets. Overall, the situation is against the ruling party, as a result, the film 'Sukanya' was not released.
