A young man named Mohammad Nuruzzaman (26) was arrested by Ansar members after attacking the Durga Puja Mandap at Rajarhat in Kurigram. At this time, 4 other youths fled from the scene. The incident took place at around 11:30 pm on Wednesday night at Kalirpat Durga Mandir in Paschim Debottar of Gharialdanga Union of Rajarhat Upazila. Army and police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Rajarhat police station officer-in-charge (OC) Rezaul Karim Reza confirmed the truth of the incident.

The arrested youth's name is Mohammad Nuruzzaman. He is the son of Mohammad Osiuzzaman of West Debottar village.

Tapan Chandra Roy, president of the puja celebration committee at Kalirpat Durga temple, said that around 11:30 pm on Wednesday night, 5-6 youths came behind the temple with bamboo and wooden sticks and attacked the temple and started pelting stones with bricks and stones. The devotees staying in the temple panicked. The members of Ansar who were in charge of security in the temple chased the youths and a youth named Mohammad Nuruzzaman (26) was arrested on the spot. The young man was handed over to the police that night. The miscreants had planned to vandalize the idol by throwing stones at the shrine.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajarhat Police Station Rezaul Karim Reza said that the detained youth has admitted the fact of hitting and throwing stones at the Puja Mandap. The names of the other 4 youths who were with him were also mentioned. A case has been filed at Rajarhat police station in this incident. The arrested youth has been sent to jail through the court. Also, police operation is going on to arrest other youths. Security has been beefed up at the temple.
