A farmer named Dulal Chowkidar (50) has been allegedly hacked to death by local Mujam Sardar and his men over a land dispute and previous enmity in Madaripur.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon in the Charbrakshandi area of Jhaudi Union in Sadar Upazila. The injured Dulal Chowkidar is the son of the deceased Daliluddin Chowkidar of Charbrakshandi area. After the incident, he was rescued and admitted to Madaripur Sadar Hospital. Later on Saturday (September 07) morning, the injured man's wife Mahinur Begum filed a written complaint against seven people at the Sadar Police Station, naming them as the plaintiff.
The accused are Mujam Sardar (55), son of Gani Sardar, Nahid Hossain (25), son of Alauddin Bepari, Kibria Sardar (35), son of Mannan Sardar, Sarwar Sardar (34), Ruhul Sardar (22), son of Azim Sardar, Mizan Sardar (50), son of Rashid Sardar, Kawsar Sardar and several others.
According to the complaint and the victim, there was a long-standing dispute over land with Dulal Chowkidar and Mujam Sardar of Charbrahmandi area of Jhaudi union of Madaripur Sadar upazila. Due to that, Mojam Sardar's people ambushed Dulal Chowkidar on his way home after work from his land and attacked him with the intention of killing him and seriously injured him by hacking his hands and feet. He was seriously injured. Later, he was rescued by locals and admitted to Madaripur Sadar Hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, injured Dulal Chowkidar said, we had a dispute with someone about a piece of land long ago and we have been trying to resolve it repeatedly but there was no solution. Due to this, Mujam Sardar's people hacked me with a ram da. I am now suffering from insecurity. I want proper justice from this government.
Meanwhile, injured Dulal Chowkidar's wife Mahinur Begum said, our only demand is to get justice for them.
Dulal Chowkidar's grandson Billal Chowkidar said, there can be a local dispute over land, so how could someone beat an old man like this? We want justice for them. Even after going to the house of accused Mojam Sardar, no trace of him was found.
In this regard, OC Salauddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Madaripur Sadar Police Station, said that legal action will be taken after investigation.
