Jubo League worker arrested for idol vandalism in Pabna

Police have arrested prime accused Bachchu Alamgir (34) alias Agun Bachchu in connection with the sensational idol vandalism incident in Sujanagar Municipal area of Pabna.
He was arrested in Goland area of Rajbari district last Sunday (October 6) based on secret information in the early hours of the morning. District Police Superintendent Md. Mortoza Ali Khan confirmed the matter in a press conference at the District Police Superintendent's office on Monday (October 7) afternoon.
The arrested Bachchu Alamgir is the son of Lokman Pramanik of Masjidpara area of Sujanagar town Sedar. Although the police did not confirm his political identity, locals said he was a Jubo League activist. His younger brother Redwan Nayan is president of N.A College branch Chhatra League. He has been in hiding since the August 5 anti-discrimination student movement.
Superintendent of Police Mortoza Ali Khan said, on the occasion of the upcoming autumn Durga Puja, the idols of two puja mandabs built in Sujanagar of Pabna were vandalized. The arrested accused broke the idols of Rishipara Mandab in the municipal area on the night of September 29 and the heads, arms and limbs of all the idols erected in the Barwari Mandir of Palpara Mahalla of Sujanagar municipal area the next day on the night of October 1.
Later, when the police administration started investigating the matter, the accused left Bachchu area and secretly went to Nazirganj Ghat area and hid himself in the neighboring Rajbari district. After investigating the various information provided by the locals, the police went to the field to arrest the mastermind. He was arrested from Goland area 5 days after the incident.
The arrested accused confessed to the learned court about his involvement in vandalizing the temple idol. According to the police, there are a total of four cases related to drugs and land in the local police station in the name of this accused of idol vandalism. The Superintendent of Police said that the accused Agun Bachchu was sent to jail on Monday afternoon after the legal process.
