The intensity of winter is gradually increasing in Tentulia, Panchagarh, the northernmost district of the country. The arrival of winter has begun with dense fog and dewdrops along with the cold mountain wind blowing from the northwest.
On Wednesday (November 12) morning, the lowest temperature in Tentulia upazila was recorded at 12.6 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest temperature in the country so far this season, according to the Tentulia Meteorological Observatory.
Although the entire area was covered in dense fog in the early morning, Tentulia became illuminated by sunlight as the morning progressed. During the day, the temperature rose to about 30 degrees Celsius. However, the presence of winter is clearly felt in the cold air in the morning and at night.
Jitendranath Roy, officer-in-charge of Tentulia Meteorological Observatory, said,
“The temperature was recorded at 9 am at 12.6 degrees Celsius. The humidity was 78 percent. The temperature is expected to drop further from mid-November to the first week of December.”
Locals said that they now have to wear a sheet or sweater to go out to work in the morning. Children are going to school wearing winter clothes. Farmers can understand from the sight of dew on the leaves and grass of crops in the fields that the arrival of winter in the northern regions is not far off.
