Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced that digital forensic labs will soon be established in the country's eight divisional headquarters to curb cybercrime and strengthen technology-based investigative operations. Simultaneously, initiatives are underway to enhance crime investigation capabilities at the district and upazila levels.
He made these remarks to journalists on Wednesday (October 14) at 11:00 AM, following the inauguration of a Cyber Police Center and a digital forensic laboratory in Chattogram's Dampara.

The Home Minister stated that the new Cyber Police Center and laboratory were constructed with financial and technical assistance from the South Korean government and the international aid agency, KOICA. This initiative will further boost the police force's capacity to investigate digital crimes.
He noted that a specialized police cyber unit, led by an Additional IGP, officially began operations on October 1. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will manage the new forensic laboratory.
Salahuddin Ahmed observed that the nature of crimes—such as cyber fraud, financial offenses, and stock market manipulation—is evolving alongside the expansion of technology. Modern forensic labs are crucial for gathering reliable digital evidence to detect and prosecute these offenses.

Meanwhile, responding to questions regarding the law and order situation, the Home Minister stated that the police are making every effort to combat crime. Legal action will be taken against anyone who obstructs the arrest of suspects or aids criminals.
It is worth noting that the project titled "Safe Cyber Space for Digital Bangladesh" is being implemented at a cost of approximately Tk 59 crore 8 lakh 68 thousand. Under this project, a four-story building was constructed in Chattogram, CID's capabilities were enhanced, and officials received domestic and international training on investigating cybercrimes.
