Afghanistan is in trouble while chasing a massive target of 479 runs against Bangladesh in the Abu Dhabi Test. Afghan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi had to leave the field early on the fifth day after being struck by a throw from a fielder.
The incident occurred during the third over of the day on Tuesday (October 13). As Zadran (Sediqullah Atal) attempted a single off the fourth ball of the over bowled by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, a fielder's throw struck Hashmatullah on his leg pad.
After the blow, Hashmatullah—who was batting on 20—began to limp. Although the physio arrived on the field to provide initial treatment, he could not continue batting. Ultimately, the batter left the field as 'retired hurt'.
Ikram Alikhil came to the crease to replace him.
Earlier, at the close of play on the fourth day, Afghanistan had scored 132 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. At the time of writing this report, the team had reached 149 for 3 in 57 overs.
Bangladesh needed 7 more wickets for victory at that stage. However, the severity of Hashmatullah's injury and whether he would be able to return to bat remain unknown.
