A friendly soccer match between the US and Brazil women's teams ended in a tense, controversial and chaotic match. The US won the match 1-0, but the focus of discussion was on the multiple red cards for the Brazilian team.
In the match held in Fortaleza, the US took the lead with an own goal by Brazilian defender Isabella Chagas, and that margin ultimately determined the outcome of the match.
However, the situation on the field was more discussed than the result of the match. A total of eight members of the Brazilian team, including players, coaches and staff, saw red cards. In the end, the situation became so heated that law enforcement had to intervene on the field.
Brazil coach Arthur Elias left the field after receiving a yellow card and then a second yellow card while protesting various decisions during the match. Several other team staff members were also punished with red cards.
Several Brazilian players left the field after receiving direct or second yellow cards due to multiple confrontations in the final stages of the match. Physical altercations with US players and arguments over referee decisions played a major role in this.
Tensions escalated after the match over the referee's decision, and police were deployed to control the situation.
On the other hand, US coach Emma Hayes said she had respect for Brazil and had never seen anything like it before.
Brazil had beaten the US 2-1 in the first friendly match before this match. As a result, the two-match series ended with different experiences for both teams.
According to analysts, the incident of indiscipline in such an international match is worrying for the image of football.
