Sheikh Hasina will come, Bangladesh will smile

After a long suspension of activities of banned organization Chhatra League on the campus of Chittagong University (CU), a wide discussion has started again about their activities. A banner in the name of Chhatra League was seen hanging at the main gate of Alaol Hall of the university early on Sunday (November 2).
The banner read—
“My land is my mother, I will not let Saint Martin and Chittagong port be given to foreigners. Wake up Bengalis, wake up and protect the motherland. Sheikh Hasina will come, Bangladesh will smile.”
On one side of the banner, pictures of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman can be seen, and on the other side, pictures of former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel can be seen.
Discussion and criticism started across the campus since the banner was hoisted in the morning. There was a huge reaction on various Facebook pages and student groups of the university.
Chaksur's newly elected vice-president and leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, Ibrahim Rony, wrote on Facebook,
“Banners of the banned organization Chhatra League have been hung in two places of Chittagong University in the dark of night. They have forgotten that this is the blood-soaked campus of Shahid Tarua and Shahid Farhad. Those who are conspiring against the campus will not be given any concessions.”
Noman, general secretary of the university branch of Chhatra Dal, said,
“They have put up the banned Chhatra League banner at the gate of Alaol Hall in the dark of night. Some former Chhatra League members in the administration may be involved in this. The administration and law enforcement agencies must take immediate steps to ensure security on the campus.”
Tasnimul Hasan Tanim, a student of the Anthropology Department, said,
“Hanging up the banner of the banned organization in the dark of night is a worrying and planned incident. This is an attempt to destroy the stable environment of the campus. The silence of the administration is making these groups more reckless.”
He further said,
“It is important to bring the entire university under CCTV cameras to maintain the safety of students and peace on campus.”
It is worth noting that no public activities of banned organizations have been seen at Chittagong University since the August 24 coup. However, recently, graffiti with the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ has been seen at various places on the shuttle train, which has also sparked a new discussion among students.
