15 artists including Boga Taleb to sing in memory of Razzak Dewan

A special music festival has been organized in Dhaka to mark the birthday of legendary Bengali folk singer and Baul poet Abdur Razzak Dewan, known as 'Matal Razzak'. 15 artists including Boga Taleb will perform songs in this event called 'Matal Razzak Janmotsab'.

Thursday (August 27) is the birthday of mystic and Baul poet Razzak Dewan. On this occasion, this special song festival will be held at the Sanjeev Chattar of TSC, Dhaka University.

'Matal Razzak Janmotsab' is being held at TSC

'Matal Razzak Janmotsab' will start at 4 pm. The event will be open to everyone. An organization named Hurricane has organized this festival.

One of the objectives of such events is to present Razzak Dewan's songs and philosophy to the new generation as well as increase interest in mysticism and folk music.

15 artists including Boga Taleb will sing

The festival will feature well-known folk artists from different eras of the country. Among them is popular folk artist Boga Taleb.

Khokon Chishti, Maruf Mrinmoy, Akash Gayen, Kawsar Ahmed Bijon, Andhari Milan, Joyita Arpa, Imran Hossain, Tamal Anarya, Abhiwasan Das, Nabin Kishore Goswami, Lanju Khan, Rahman Joni, Shimul Kumbhakar and Mahbub Khalasi.

Boga Taleb will sing songs by Razzak Dewan

Regarding the event, artist Boga Taleb said that there should be more such festivals about mystics. He said that he will dedicate some of his songs to 'Matal Razzak' and perform them.

Boga Taleb thanked those involved in the event and expressed his hope for more events about the songs and culture of mystics.

The event will be open to all

The entry to this song festival organized at the Sanjeev Chattar of TSC, Dhaka University will be open to the audience. A poster has also been released on the occasion of the festival, which can be collected for a goodwill fee of 50 taka.

Who is this Razzak Dewan?

Abdur Razzak Dewan was one of the well-known saints and Baul poets of Bengali folk songs. He was also known as 'Matal Razzak'. He was especially known for his body language and spiritual songs.

Razzak Dewan used to express deep philosophy of life and spiritual thoughts in simple language. His songs composed and performed have taken an important place in the repertoire of Bengali folk music.

Birth and death

Abdur Razzak Dewan was born on August 27, 1930 in Keraniganj, Dhaka. He composed and performed numerous songs in his long musical career.
