The leaders of July Unity have demanded banning not only Awami League, but also the 14-party alliance led by it and all its affiliate organizations. They made this demand at a press conference at Dhaka University's TSC on Sunday night.
At the press conference, the leaders of July Unity said, "We are making this demand standing on the foundation of the blood of 2,000 martyrs of the July mass uprising. In addition to banning the murderous and terrorist organization Awami League, it is also important to ensure the safety of the July Revolution's manifesto and the leaders and activists."
They said that more than 60 organizations have already joined July Unity. Last Thursday night, they took a procession from DU to take up positions in front of the residence of the chief advisor. July Unity took up positions in Shahbagh from 4 pm on Friday. At 5:30 pm that day, students from the Jamuna rally joined Shahbagh. Many people, including Hasnat Abdullah, one of the organizers of the July Revolution, were present there.
On Saturday night, July Unity, as part of the National Unity Against Fascism, took up position at Shahbagh. They complained, “Although the interim government used some clever words on Saturday night to ban the activities of the Awami League, it was not banned as a party, which was our main demand.”
The organizers said that the government may announce a circular on Monday. They will wait until Monday and then announce the next program based on what the government decides.
Four important decisions were announced by July Unity at the press conference:
1. The revolutionary ‘July Declaration’ will be formally proposed to the government.
2. Unity of organizations that embody the spirit of July will be built across the country.
3. The government’s actions will be monitored according to three demands.
4. The accomplices of fascism in various sectors will be identified and the government will be urged to take action, otherwise their list will be published.
The organizers warned, "The branches and roots of the Awami League must be uprooted. Therefore, not only the Awami League, but also the 14-party alliance and all its associated organizations must be banned."
