A fire broke out at the Chittagong Port's Custom Auction Shed on Thursday morning. Upon receiving the information, multiple units of the Fire Service quickly reached the spot and brought the fire under control. It is initially believed that major damage could have been avoided due to timely action.
Fire Service sources said that the fire was reported at around 8:50 am. Then three units reached the spot and started extinguishing the fire. After about an hour of effort, the fire was completely brought under control at 9:49 am.
After the fire was brought under control, the Fire Service members conducted cooling activities so that there was no risk of the fire spreading again. In addition, the work of collecting information about possible damage by observing the scene has also been started.
Initially, no casualties were reported. However, the extent of damage to goods or infrastructure in the fire has not yet been confirmed. The concerned officials are investigating the matter and collecting detailed information.
The cause of the fire is also not yet certain. The Fire Service and the concerned authorities are jointly investigating the source of the incident. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be reported in detail after the investigation.
As Chittagong Port is one of the most important commercial centers of the country, it is very important to quickly control any such accident. Various types of goods related to import and export are stored in the custom auction shed. As a result, if the fire had lasted for a long time, there could have been a threat of major financial losses.
The concerned have praised the members of the fire service for their quick response and bringing the fire under control through a coordinated operation. The real cause of the fire and the full picture of the damage will be known after the investigation report is released.
