Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expelled four members after a party investigation into the attack on journalists in the capital's Dhanmondi. The organization claims that organizational disciplinary action has been taken against the accused as per the recommendations of the investigation committee.
The decision to expel was implemented after reviewing the report of the investigation committee formed on Wednesday. A press release issued by the party said that a quick investigation was taken after considering the incident seriously and the decision was taken based on the information obtained during the investigation.
The four expelled from the party are Shafiqul Islam, Khairul Alam Russell, Abul Kalam and Mamun Hossain.
According to Jamaat, they view the incident with journalists performing their professional duties as undesirable. Action has been taken against the accused to maintain party discipline and organizational policies will be followed in such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, Jamaat central and Dhaka Metropolitan South leaders went to his house to inquire about the physical condition of journalist Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir, who was injured in the attack. In addition, the party's central leadership issued a separate statement condemning the incident.
It is worth noting that on June 23, several journalists were attacked while gathering news in Dhanmondi 32 area of the capital on the occasion of the Awami League's founding anniversary. The incident raised concerns and criticism among journalist organizations, media workers and various circles.
According to political analysts, ensuring a safe working environment for journalists and an impartial investigation into such incidents are important for a democratic environment.
