Awami League workers have been accused of hacking a youth leader named Rafiqul Islam (40) in Gurdaspur of Natore. On Monday (September 16) morning, Nusrat Sultana, the wife of the injured Juba Dal leader, filed a case against 8 people at the Gurdaspur police station.

Earlier on Sunday (September 15) evening, the incident took place in Poyalshura Doripara village of Dharabarisha union of the upazila. Injured Rafiqul Islam is currently undergoing treatment at Gurdaspur Upazila Health Complex.

Injured youth leader Rafiqul Islam said that he was drinking tea at a tea shop in the market after leaving his house on Wednesday night. At that time, at least 10 people including local Awami League workers Shahidul Islam, Abdul Wahab, Munkar Hossain with sharp knives in their hands ambushed him. On the spot, he got seriously injured and fell on the ground. The locals rescued him and admitted him to the Upazila Health Complex. All the attackers are supporters of Upazila Awami League General Secretary and Dharabarisha Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Mateen.

Convener of Gurdaspur Upazila Jubo Dal, Shariful Islam Biblab, came to see the injured Jubo Dal leader at the Upazila Health Complex and said that the activities of Awami terrorists have not stopped yet. This attack took place on the orders of the Awami League leader. We demand that the culprits be brought to justice as soon as possible.

When asked about this, Dharabarisha Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Matin told Dhaka Post that what is being said about me is completely false. They are saying my name to humiliate me politically.

In this regard, Gurdaspur Thana police officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Ujjal Hossain said that a case has been filed in this incident. However, I cannot say that the attack was primarily due to political reasons. I learned that the incident started with local children playing sports. Legal action is being taken in this incident.
