Jamaat Ameer Again Invites Tarique Rahman to Public Debate

Published: 11:23 6 February 2026
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has once again invited BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman to take part in a direct public discussion on an open platform. He proposed that both leaders present their respective party election manifestos before the nation so that voters can make an informed decision.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman extended the invitation in a post published on his verified Facebook page on Friday night (6 February).
At the beginning of the post, addressing Tarique Rahman as “dear” and “honourable,” the Jamaat Ameer wrote that the legitimacy of a government can only be ensured through a free, fair and neutral election. He added that no election result can earn public trust without justice and confidence of the people.
Referring to the post–July uprising period, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said the youth now bear the responsibility of proving that politics can be civilised, tolerant and non-violent. He called for setting standards for future governance by facing the media and the public through transparent, accountable and criticism-friendly political practices.
The Jamaat leader noted that as Tarique Rahman has already begun outlining his political plans, the time has come for an open debate where both sides can present their manifestos directly to the nation and allow the people to decide.
Concluding his post, Dr Shafiqur Rahman urged all political forces to begin a new chapter for Bangladesh—one that is committed to respecting the will of the people.
