A new concern has arisen about the security situation in the country centered on the banned political party Awami League. Bangladesh Police has suddenly gone on high alert. The Special Branch (SB) of the law enforcement agency believes that the party may organize secretly and create anarchy across the country. In view of this fear, special operations and searches will continue from July 29 to August 8.

On Monday (July 28), a secret letter was sent from the Special Branch (SB) of the police to the top officials of various units including the DMP Commissioner, Divisional DIG, District Police Superintendent. The letter, signed by the SB DIG, has instructed special preparations to prevent political tension and possible violence.

The SB fears that anti-government political parties and so-called anti-fascist organizations may carry out provocative campaigns through various programs from July 29 to August 8, focusing on the 'anniversary of the historic July Uprising'. Intelligence agencies believe that attempts to spread anarchy may also be made on social media.

The letter states that security at important government and private establishments must be strengthened during this time. The police must be prepared to prevent any attacks, chaos or vandalism under the guise of political programs.

All police stations in the country have been instructed to conduct special search operations during these 10 days. Suspicious motorcycles, microbuses and various vehicles will be searched. In addition, instructions have been given to increase mobile patrols and intelligence surveillance in bus terminals, launch docks, railway stations and airport areas.

High-ranking police officials say that although some Awami League student and youth organization leaders are not in the field now, they have formed a 'virtual squad' online. They are spreading various provocative statements against the government through Facebook, Telegram and YouTube channels, which is creating concern among the public.

In this regard, Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury recently told reporters, “The Awami League’s allies want to destabilize the country. They are trying to create anarchy in the country by bringing money from abroad. The government will strictly suppress these activities.”

The police have requested the public not to listen to rumors in the current situation and to cooperate with the security forces to the fullest extent. They have been asked to report any suspicious person, object or movement to the police.
