Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has returned home after a four-day UK visit. A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying him landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 9:45 am on Saturday, the Chief Advisor's press wing confirmed.

He and his entourage left Heathrow International Airport for Dhaka at 7:15 pm on Friday, London time.

During the visit, the Chief Advisor met with the Speaker of the UK House of Commons and participated in various important programs. One of the most talked about events of the visit was his meeting with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The joint statement said that the meeting was held in a very cordial atmosphere. Tarique Rahman proposed that national elections in Bangladesh can be organized in the week before the start of Ramadan in 2026 after completing the necessary preparations. Dr. Yunus also expressed sympathy for the proposal, but he said that the elections will not be credible and participatory unless there are sufficient reforms and progress in the constitution, law and judiciary.

Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the issue of recovering laundered money has gained utmost importance during this visit. In his words, "About 234 billion US dollars have been laundered from Bangladesh during Sheikh Hasina's rule, a large part of which has gone to the UK."

He also said that the British authorities are actively assisting Bangladesh in recovering this money. He mentioned the seizure of the assets of Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed in the UK as an example.

In addition, during this visit, Dr. Yunus was awarded the 'King Charles III Harmony Award 2025'. He was awarded this honor in recognition of his lifelong contribution to human welfare.
