Bangabir Quader Siddiqui has warned the Awami League, saying, "Awami League is not the water of raw leaves, it will not be approved or banned — this is the verdict of the people."
The founding president of the Krishak Sramik Janata League made this comment in response to a question from journalists during an exchange of views with local people in Chatihati village of Kalihati upazila of Tangail on Sunday (May 11) afternoon.
He said, "A hostile wind is blowing in the country now. Awami League is the party that brought independence to Bangladesh under the leadership of Bangabandhu. Banning a party does not make it banned. If the people turn their backs, then the party cannot survive even if it has government approval."
Quader Siddiqui also said, "Those who have done wrong and made mistakes in the Awami League will be tried. If proven guilty, they will be punished. But the decision of any council is not final. The law and the verdict of the people are final."
He was accompanied by Abdullah, the central leader of the Krishak Sramik Janata League, SM Nazmul Alam Firoz, the convener of the Kalihati Upazila Youth Movement, and other local leaders.
A new discussion has started in the political arena around this statement.
