The court has ordered to issue a red alert through Interpol to arrest former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed. On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain issued the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Earlier on Sunday, the ACC filed an application in this regard in the court and the commission's officer Md. Hafizul Islam had applied to issue an Interpol red alert to arrest Benazir Ahmed.
A senior ACC official told Manabzamin that if the court allows it, it will be sent to the Home Ministry and the ministry will take action through their regular process.
On December 15, the ACC will file four cases against Benazir Ahmed and her family members on charges of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 74 crore and concealing information about their assets.
The case alleges that Benazir Ahmed has acquired known undeclared assets worth Tk 9.44 crore and concealed information about assets worth Tk 2.62 crore. His wife Zeeshan Mirza has acquired known undeclared assets worth Tk 31.69 crore and concealed information about Tk 16.1 crore. Their eldest daughter Farheen Rishta binte Benazir has acquired illegal assets worth Tk 8.75 crore and her second daughter Tahseen Raisa binte Benazir has acquired illegal assets worth Tk 5.59 crore.
Earlier, on October 14, a case was filed against Benazir Ahmed and five others on charges of passport fraud. The complaint states that despite being a government employee, she resorted to fraud and deceit while getting a passport as a private employee.
In addition, on June 12, the court ordered the seizure of 8 flats and 25 acres of land in the names of Benazir Ahmed, his wife and children. This includes flats in Badda and Adabor in Dhaka and land in Narayanganj, Bandarban, and Uttara.
